Members Receive Commendations
May 8, 2019

Last evening, multiple members of Swatara Fire-Rescue received commendations for their actions during a recent house fire with rescue.

On February 18, 2019, Swatara Township and mutual aid units were dispatched to 26 Boyer Street in the Enhaut section of the Township. Chief 91-6 (BC Bradnick) arrived on scene confirming a well involved fire on the first floor of a woodframe duplex and confirming entrapment of up to 3 residents. Engine 91 (LT Oliver - Driver/Operator, FF Marzen - Officer, FF Furlong - Nozzleman) arrived assuming first due within 2 minutes of dispatch. Upon entry via the side bravo door, FFs Furlong & Marzen located a female victim approximately 15 feet inside the door. FFs Furlong & Marzen quickly removed the victim and transferred care off to FF/Medic Kirkpatrick (E91-2). While this was occurring, Chiefs Steele, Huggins and Allen made their way to division 2 to perform a rapid search for other trapped occupants (None located) despite the fire conditions below.

The victim has since been discharged from the burn unit and rehabilitation center, and is expected to make a full recovery.
